CMT Letter regarding upcoming BZA hearing

Greetings!

7-Eleven seeks to open a 24 hour convenience store at 1351 Whalley Avenue (corner of Whalley & East Ramsdell), at the site of the former Tommy K's. In order to operate a 24 hour store they need a "special exception" from the City to stay open between 11pm and 6am, and will request this at the next Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) meeting.

This request will be heard by the BZA on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 6:30pm at 200 Orange Street in the Hearing Room in the basement. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and public testimony is welcome.

This site is directly across the street from a current 24 hour retailer, and the Whalley Ave. corridor from Fitch Street to the Merrit Parkway already has a number of other 24 hour retail, and food service, operations. We are encouraging you to attend this meeting as adding yet another 24 hour operation could have negative affects on our neighborhood.

Legal representation for 7-Eleven was present at the last BZA hearing on Nov. 15 where they requested to postpone their application. If you are interested in learning more about this issue please call or email Paul Chambers at 397.3709,
pchambers@iname.com, or Andy Orefice at 640.5502, andyorefice@gmail.com. You may also contact the City Plan Department at 946.6378.

We look forward to seeing you on Tues. Dec. 13th in order to keep Westville a safe and attractive neighborhood.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
