New Haven Public Library Restores Saturday Hours in all Branches
Beginning October 1, New Haven Free Public Library will restore Saturday hours throughout the neighborhood branches. After several years of rotating Saturday hours through the branches, the library will open every branch location from 12:00 – 5:00 pm, adding 20 service hours to the system.
Elsie Chapman, President of Library Board of Directors noted, “in a community that needs more, not fewer, library services, reestablishing Saturday hours at all library locations reflects the New Haven Free Public Library’s commitment to being a center of learning and a community gathering place for the citizens of New Haven.” She added, “while additional funding is still needed to offer the program richness we’d like to offer on Saturdays, we are grateful to Mayor DeStefano and the Board of Alderman for the key role they played in ensuring that the doors will at least be open.”
Executive Director and City Librarian Christopher Korenowsky notes, "Every library customer has a story. Library staff hear community stories every day. Being open hours that are more convenient for children and families will ensure the community stories continue to grow. I am so grateful for the support the elected officials in the City of New Haven have given the public library."
